So all that newly acquired yarn in the pretty pictures I posted yesterday?
Not at all suitable for baby booties. Unless maybe I could start a business selling orthopedic baby booties. What a concept! Correct your baby's feet before it starts to walk.
I don't think so.
So I'm thinking what to do with all that yarn and this is what I've come up with so far.
1. coasters, placemats and dishcloths (of course)
2. market bags
3. purses (although the colors I have aren't all that suitable)
I'm wide open to suggestions because I don't have enough friends who need as many gifts as this is going to make. And I'm not willing to sell off the yarn yet.

There are some neat patterns for placemats on several yarn sites, hot pads in tapestry crochet, AND there are some adult booties by Sylver Designs that are really nice in cotton (I made myself a pair). The cotton doesn't slip on a slick floor like the acrylic. Summer blouse/tank/top (there are some WONDERFUL patterns in the new Interweave Crochet Summer 2008). Lot's of things to make in cotton. Also look at the web site of the manufacturer (Coats & Clark, right?) - they have some great FREE patterns!

Oh, thanks! I don't think the cotton I was working with yesterday -- the one that made orthopedic booties -- would work in clothing at all. It's just too stiff. If it was soft enough for a tank top, it'd be soft enough for booties, I should think. But I'll check out the other patterns.
Plus, an attorney coworker made a potholder out of the red-white-and-blue one and it was pretty soft. I might be able to salvage booties out of the stash after all.
Cotton is perfect for any baby clothing (just wait until you wash it, it softens right up!) It's easily washable and durable! You could also do bibs, since cotton absorbs drool very nicely! As Cat said, tank tops are good too. There are a few cute purses you could make out of cotton, and market bags are my favorite!!! Try the Peaches and Creme site for more ideas.

Placemats and market bags do make nice gifts. Perhaps you could sell some to support the yarn habit?
Market bags as gifts! Great idea. I have a lot of coworkers who are hard to buy for but we have a weekly farmers market in the next block that a lot of them frequent. It would be the perfect gift for all of them. And I have plenty of time before the holidays to make them up. I'll certainly use all this yarn!
